Lacy (21-0, 17 KOs), who made a successful fourth defense of his title, was supposed to fight a unification bout with fellow champ Joe Calzaghe last week, but Calzaghe injured his hand in an ill-advised September tune-up fight and pulled out. One boxer ignores him, another ducks (St Pete Times 11.9.05)
Nice guy, that Jeff Lacy. Leads with a smile and counters with a chuckle. In a sport that rewards loudmouths and liars, he is as polite and true as they come. Sure, we wish that, occasionally, he would step out of character. To consider being a bully or give thought to acting tough. But, somehow, it doesn't fit. Lacy can neither huff nor puff. He barely gets indignant and can hardly manage disrespectful. He just doesn't do obnoxious. So I'll do it for him. HEY ANTONIO TARVER, WHY SUCH A PUNK? (full story)

The Super Middleweight Division and Jeff Lacy (thesweetscience.com 11.04.05)
The super middleweight division holds one of the most exciting scenarios in boxing. Three of its four major titleholders are undefeated. Any time that is the case, highly-anticipated matchups should only be inevitable. What makes the division even more enthralling is that it has a fighter on the edge of superstardom in undefeated IBF titleholder Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy. (full story)
Lacy owns what Pemberton wants (espn.com 11.4.05)
Super middleweight champ Jeff Lacy had hoped that his fourth title defense would be a career-defining matchup.
In a time when many fighters refuse to travel into enemy territory, Lacy was ready, willing and able to jet to Wales for a unification fight with Joe Calzaghe. It was a match that promoter Gary Shaw and Showtime had gone through considerable trouble to put together, and a match that boxing fans had been anticipating. The winner clearly would establish himself as the best super middleweight in the world. (full story)

TAMPA - -- Every punch St. Petersburg super-middleweight champion Jeff Lacy throws is with bad intentions. Lacy wants to shatter noses and jaws. To hammer the body until that poor guy can't breathe. Lacy-Pemberton packs punch (USA Today 10.26.05)
"The inference of Scott Pemberton's nickname, "The Sandman," is apt because more times than not he puts opponents to sleep. NO CALZAGHE -- Promoter Gary Shaw has arranged for unbeaten IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy to defend his title against Scott Pemberton on Nov. 5 in Lake Tahoe.
And, Shaw insists, he has given up on making a mega-bout with unbeaten WBO champion Joe Calzaghe.
Calzaghe injured a hand in a Sept. 10 fight in his native Wales and can't fight in November, as planned.
Calzaghe never has fought outside the United Kingdom because of a fear of flying, so his worldwide popularity is limited.
Shaw said he thinks Lacy will be boxing's next big star and doesn't need Calzaghe.
"What has he ever done that we should have to go over there and pay homage to him?" Shaw said. "Lacy is a guy who is becoming the man on his own. I truly believe he's going to become a superstar, and not just because I promote him, but because of the way he fights.
"He goes in there and he fights. He mixes it up and he knocks guys out. He's like a young Mike Tyson in that respect. But he's a great kid. He's the kind of guy people will want to rally around and support." ( from Kevin Iole's notebook Las Vegas Review Journal 10.2.05)
