JOSEPH AGBEKO: “In boxing you have to fight the best to
be the best and I just want Vic to know that this is the fight
of my life. I know Vic Darchinyan picked to fight me because he
thinks he can have his way with me but I just want him to know
that this is the biggest mistake he has ever made in his career
because he’s going to get the worst beating of his career."
VIC DARCHINYAN: “I think after this fight they are going

is going to be the biggest mismatch. Where would you like me to

Shaw says stick fork
in Victor Ortiz, he's done!
By Michael Marley - BoxingConfidential.com
Big Gary Shaw says you can go ahead and stick a fork in
celebrated prospect turned suspect Vicious Victor Ortiz.
Shaw proclaims that Ortiz is done, finished, kaput at the higher
levels of boxing.
Some boxing guys have a code. Some guys in the sport/business
won’t hit a man when he is down, literally or figuratively.
Rough and tumble promoter Shaw is not one of those guys. In the
wake of Golden Boy poster child and Oscar De La Hoya heir not so
apparent Victor Ortiz’s KO loss to Marcos Maidana, Shaw is
pummeling Ortiz worse than the Argentinean southpaw did. Click Here For More
Darchinyan Reaffirms
Alliance With Gary Shaw
World super flyweight champion VIC "Raging Bull" DARCHINYAN and
his manager Elias Nassar announced today, from Darchinyan's Las
Vegas-based training camp, that they will be extending their
relationship with promoter Gary Shaw ... FOR A LIFETIME!
"I am so please and honored by their trust and faith in me and
my abilities," said Shaw. "I am truly humbled. But for all the
credit Vic and Elias give me, the real credit goes to Vic and
his team for in the end, they are the ones producing great
fights for the fans and Vic Darchinyan is the most exciting
fighter in the world. He is conquering more worlds than
Alexander the Great with no end in sight. The real wonder of our
relationship is that we have never had a signed piece of paper
between us. Just a handshake and a hug. It's a beautiful
friendship and I look forward to working with them on developing
more talent from Australia, Armenia and Russia for many years to
come."
Darchinyan (32-1, 26 KOs), already a two-division world champion
with knockout victories of world titleists Cristian Mijares,
Jorge Arce, Irene Pacheco and Dmitri Kirillov, moves up to
challenge IBF bantamweight champion Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko

Dawson sets rematch
with Johnson
By Dave Skretta - Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP)—It’s not uncommon for tough fighters to be ducked
and dodged, but it’s happened so frequently to Chad Dawson that
he’s starting to run out of rematches, too.
The exciting two-time light heavyweight champion has agreed to a
rematch with Glen Johnson this fall, promoter Gary Shaw said
Friday. The date and site have not been announced, but it will
most likely be in early November of December.
“My ideal place would be Madison Square Garden,” Shaw told The
Associated Press. “I think Chad needs that kind of exposure, and
if we can make tickets very inexpensive, we could expose him to
a lot of people.” Click Here For More

“Agbeko is a good fighter,” Darchinyan told SecondsOut. “He is

Agbeko stopped him in round 7. Agbeko works on angles with a big

Darchinyan: I want
more titles!
By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing
IBF/WBA/WBC super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (32-1-1, 26
KOs) is looking forward to winning the IBF bantamweight title
from Joseph Agbeko (26-1, 22 KOs) when they clash on July 11 at
the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Darchinyan said. ”Maybe I stay for a year at bantamweight and
unify the titles then move up a division - I want to win more
world titles. People are talking because I am moving up to
bantamweight that my power isn’t going to be enough but that is
why I want to go to America and be more focused on my training
and show the world my power is more than enough at bantamweight.
Everyone knows I have a lot of power in my left. Now with all my
sparring - I am more focused on my right and I can feel my right
hand is very powerful now, too, and my sparring partners have
told me this. My preparation has been very good and there is
five and half weeks to go.”
Darchinyan will be sparring with WBA featherweight champion
Chris John while he is in the USA. If Darchinyan is successful
in winning the bantamweight championship he will equal Jeff
Fenech as Australia’s three divisional world champion. He has
already equaled Kostya Tszyu by holding all the major body belts
of IBF/WBC/WBA. Darchinyan is managed by Elias Nasser and
promoted by Gary Shaw.
Colombian Silences
Mabuza
By David Isaacson - The Times
Local boxer goes down to late sucker punch from unbeaten Perez.
Yonnhy Perez shocked local boxing fans on Friday night when he
stopped home-town favourite Silence Mabuza in the final round of
their IBF bantamweight eliminator at the Springs Arena.
After this war had been stopped 1min 06sec into the 12th round,
Mabuza said: “It was just one punch, but I’m still here.”
Yes, it was a single left hand that landed flush on Mabuza’s
chin, sending him reeling across the ring and onto the canvas.

Cintron Derails
Angulo With Unanimous Decision
Kermit Cintron (now 31-2-1, 27 KO's) scored an impressive and
career redeeming unanimous decision over previously undefeated
Alfredo Angulo. The fight had some close inside action with both
men trading in the center of the ring at times, but it was
Cintron who picked apart the untested Angulo through the
majority of rounds.
Final scores were 116-112 on all three cards.
Angulo takes his first loss at 15-1, 12 KO's.
Yonnhy Perez Remains
Perfect
With KO Victory Of Silence Mabuza
Behind on all scorecards at the beginning of the 12th and final
round, YONNHY PEREZ pulled out all stops last night, in his
International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title
elimination bout, and landed a huge left that sent two-time
world champion challenger Silence Mabuza to the canvas. Buzzed
and on uneasy legs Mabuza (22-3, 18 KOs), from South Africa,
barely beat the count. Perez proceeded to apply the finishing
touches to his masterpiece, pressuring and landing huge
unanswered shots, leaving no option for referee Kenny Chevalier
to stop the fight with 1:06 left in the last stanza. Perez joins
two-division world champion Rafael Marquez as the only men to
deal a professional defeat to Mabuza.
With the victory, Perez (19-0, 14 KOs), from Colombia, becomes
the IBF's No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger to the winner
of the bout between IBF bantamweight champion Joseph "King Kong"
Agbeko and World Super Flyweight Champion Vic "Raging Bull"
Darchinyan. The Agbeko-Darchinyan bantamweight title fight will
be televised live from Sunrise, Florida, Saturday, July 11, on
SHOWTIME Championship Boxing.
"My corner told me I was losing. I knew I had to throw decisive
shots and try to knock him out," said Perez after the fight. "I
countered him and hit him right on the button, it was not a
lucky shot. He was in his hometown and we battled hard, Mabuza
is a lion, but I knew some close rounds were going to go his
way. I'm ready for the big challenge now."
Today at the Durandt Gymnasium, in the outskirts of
Johannesburg, Yonnhy Perez and Silence Mabuza, weighed in below
the mandated bantamweight limit (118 lb.) in front of the South
African commission and IBF officials.
The bout, presented by Branco Sports Promotions, in association
with Thompson Boxing Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions, will
take place at the Springs Indoor Arena, will be televised
nationwide in South Africa and in the entire continent by the
premier broadcaster, SABC Sport, which services 30 million
viewers. The Mabuza – Perez IBF Eliminator telecast begins at 10

Just like he did last summer, Dawson went for choice No. 2.

Tavoris Cloud this fall in a bout that HBO, which has Dawson
under contract, had no interest in televising, Dawson vacated

"Look for Alfredo

You don’t always need to headline the show to be the one that
everyone is talking about at the end of the night.
Just ask Alfredo Angulo, who’s rapidly becoming an expert on the
subject. The 2004 Mexican Olympian is barely four years into his
professional career, is often found in the co-feature or
supporting slot of a given telecast and has yet to truly
establish his own fan base.
Yet come Saturday night, he once again threatens to be the one
everyone is buzzing about as they make their way to the exits.
It would be quite a statement considering the headlining act he

Can Angulo Pick Up
the Mexican Mantle?
By Steve Kim -
MaxBoxing.com
As of
now, there is no big Mexican star. Yeah, sure, there are a
plethora of standout boxers from that country, but there is
nobody who can be described as a fighter who the people identify
with and rally behind as one. There will never, ever be another
Julio Cesar Chavez (the Babe Ruth of Mexico) but clearly there
is a void. And when this exists, the business of boxing suffers.
Let's face it, with the changing demographics of this country
and the Latin fanbase being so dominant in the boxing
marketplace, boxing needs a standout or two from south of the
border.Click Here

Rafael's remark: After three consecutive epic junior
featherweight championship fights with fellow Mexican Israel
Vazquez between March 2007 and March 2008, both fighters needed
long rests. While Vazquez remains out of action while eye
injuries heal, Marquez, 34, finally returned to the ring looking
to shake off losses in the second and third fights, the 2007 and
2008 fights of the year. The former two-division champ made it a
successful comeback, notching his first win since the first
Vazquez fight more than two years ago. Marquez's timing was a
little off, and his jab looked a little slow. He also ate a
couple of right hands from Colombia's Mendoza, 37, but he seemed
to take it well. In the third round, Marquez suddenly landed a
flush overhand right hand on Mendoza's chin and dropped him to
his backside. Mendoza struggled to his feet, and there was a bit
of confusion because referee Carlos Garcia did a poor job. He
made no indication of what was going on. Ultimately, though, the
fight had been called off because Garcia was walking a dazed
Mendoza back to his corner. It's nice to see Marquez, the
younger brother of lightweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez, back
in action. When Vazquez is ready to go, there's a good chance we
may see a fourth installment of their rivalry in the fall.

You may not like Antonio Tarver but at the close of his rematch
Saturday night against IBF/IBO heavyweight champion undefeated
Chad Dawson, you have to give him his due. Despite being 40
years old and with his once superior skills gone, Tarver’s guile
and cunning allowed him to go the distance twice against the top
ranked fighter in the 175 pound weight class. Both fights ended
with the younger man retaining his title, belts and undefeated
record but Dawson failed to dominate either bout. Many boxing
experts wondered aloud in the days leading up to the fight about
the validity of a rematch; a clear cut Dawson victory the first
time, no clamoring for a rematch and the champion’s continued
insistence on not giving another shot to the man who gave him
the toughest fight of his career, Glen “The Road Warrior”
Johnson. Click Here For More

Student Of The Game
By Nat Gottlieb -
HBO.com
Chad Dawson has made four successful defenses of his light
heavyweight title, but both his manager and promoter say he is
still a work in progress. How much better can he get?
By rights, Dawson should probably still be an unbeaten
contender. He has tremendous natural talent, but much of it is
raw. That he has become a champion while learning on the job
testifies to the God-given gifts the 26-year-old possesses:
lightening hand speed and great athleticism.
Ironically, it was Dawson's athletic abilities that probably
inhibited his progress as a boxer. At Hillhouse High in New
Haven, Dawson played quarterback and wide receiver on the
football team and point guard in basketball. It was his affinity
for hoops that made him quit boxing in 1999 when he appeared to
be on the verge of making the U.S. Olympic team. Click Here

Bradley Survives Two
Knockdowns To Unify Titles
With Unanimous Decision Over Inactive Holt
Photo: William
Trillo - Pound4Pound.com
Timothy Bradley (now 24-0, 11 KO's) survived being dropped in
the opening round and once in the final round to unify the WBO &
WBC Jr. Welterweight Titles with a hard fought unanimous
decision over Kendall Holt.
The fight started with Holt pulling an Antonio Tarver, first by
commenting at the stare down during the referee's instruction.
"You ready to see this heart?", boasted Holt to Bradley before
the first round was even underway.
In round 1, an exchange ended with a huge left hook from Holt
that landed right on the chin of Bradley that created a picture
perfect knockdown. Miraculously Bradley was up in an instant,
but on wobbly legs. Bradley took a knee to recollect himself
before resuming the fight at the referee's count of 8. Despite
the devastating knockdown, Holt never kept the momentum going
and instead let Bradley off the hook.
Over the next 11 rounds, Bradley took complete control. Holt
would complain of an accidental headbutt in round 4 that opened
up a small cut over his right eye which was never a factor in
the fight.
By round 7, Holt was completely frustrated by Bradley's constant
body work. Bradley was dominating the unwilling Holt.
In rounds 9 through 11, Holt just walked in to clinch and hold.
Very little was offered in terms of offense from Holt so it was
very hard to give him any rounds.
In round 12, Holt again started with his clinching early, but
landed a counter right uppercut that staggered Bradley into the
ropes which resulted in his glove touching the canvas for the
second ruled knockdown in the fight. Despite having Bradley
(once again) in deep trouble, Holt just decided to wait until
the round ended instead of seizing the opportunity.
It certainly cost him as the final scores read 114-112, 115-111
and 115-111.
"Clinch & Hold" Holt falls to 25-3 with 13 KO's.

Holt-Bradley: Time

PATERSON — A lifelong boxing fan from Wayne has promised that
Timothy Bradley will knock out Kendall Holt in their 140-pound

Dawson-Tarver II
benefits from delay
By Steve Carp - LAS
VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Losing several weeks of training to a hand injury isn't a good
thing, but ultimately it might have been a blessing for Chad
Dawson in his light heavyweight rematch against Antonio Tarver
on May 9.
Dawson, the IBF and IBO world champion, beat Tarver soundly to
win a 12-round unanimous decision Oct. 11 at the Palms. Dawson
honored the rematch clause in Tarver's contract, and the two
were to have fought March 14, but the bout was postponed when
Dawson suffered ligament damage to his right hand. Click Here

Agbeko-Darchinyan
Tilt Set For Summer
By Dan Rafael -
ESPN.com
Archive Junior bantamweight champion Vic Darchinyan has always
had lofty goals. One was to win the flyweight title. He did that
and reigned for almost three years.
Another goal he set for himself was to win the junior
bantamweight title. He did that, too, winning a belt last summer
and then unifying the three major belts in spectacular fashion
when he knocked out Cristian Mijares in the ninth round in
November.
But after brutalizing Jorge Arce for 11 rounds in February, he
wanted another challenge. So now it is on to the bantamweight
division for the trash-talking Australian slugger. Click Here

TIMOTHY BRADLEY:
“I’m very excited about this fight. It’s going to give me a
chance to prove that I’m one of the best 140-pounders in the
world by beating Kendall Holt. I’m just happy and just ready to
get it on.
“I’m just training and letting everything fall into place. It’s
a great opportunity and another step to my ultimate goal and
that’s to capture all the world titles at 140 pounds. Then I’ll
go into 147. I’m used to fighting bigger and taller guys, so
bigger guys are not a problem for me.
KENDALL HOLT: “It’s going to be a great night in boxing
for Team Holt. We’re in good shape for this fight. We have a
game plan for this fight and a backup game plan.
“The thing is to follow the game plan precise. I have a plan B
just in case that doesn’t work. But I’ve been training for two
months for this fight and I have to execute the game plan as
planned. Click Here

Campbell Rallies To
Defeat Funeka;
Angulo Stops Rivera
By Nat Gottlieb
Courtesy of HBO.com
Nothing has ever come easy for Nate Campbell. Abandoned by his
parents as a kid, he lived in 15 foster homes and attended 15
different schools growing up. He was working as a box cutter for
Winn-Dixie on the graveyard shift in Jacksonville at age 24 when
he decided to take up boxing. Last year he won his first world
championship at age 35, and then lost his three belts on the
scales when he failed to make weight for his fight Saturday
night against South African Ali Funeka. Going into the late
rounds, it looked like the tall South African’s busier work rate
was winning the fight, but then Campbell dug down deep and
finished strong in the final three rounds -- including an 11th
round knockdown -- to win a majority decision, 115-111, a
114-112 and 113-113. Click Here

"Perro" Angulo Ruffs Up Rivera for 11th Straight KO

Eighty years to the
day, undefeated No. 1 super welterweight contender ALFREDO "Perro"
ANGULO played Al Capone, mowing down Cosme Rivera in his own St.
Valentine's Day Massacre. Making his case as boxing's most
exciting fighter tonight, Angulo (15-0,12 KOs), of Mexacali.
Mexico, extended his incredible knockout streak to 11, dating
back to July 14, 2006, stopping the game Rivera at 2:38 of the
fifth round. This marked only the second time in 45 professional
bouts that Rivera (31-12-2, 23 KOs), from Culiacan, Mexico, had
not gone the distance. The fight, which was televised live on
HBO, took place at the Bank-Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.
"Tell Ricardo Mayorga, his promoter, his attorney and the rest
of his enablers that they did the right thing keeping him out of
the ring with me. I would have buried him like a dog buries a
bone," said Angulo, who was originally scheduled to fight
Mayorga tonight in a world title elimination bout before Mayorga
pulled out 10 days before the fight. "I'm the top dog in this
division and I dare anyone wearing a world championship belt to
prove me wrong."

Chad Dawson, Vic Darchinyan, and Timothy Bradley as belt holders
and you could make a solid argument that this is a superior
trio. In addition, as always he has a solid group of young
